In the past, the year was divided into two parts. In the end of summer part one (the labor season) was over. Concequently, the time of “ayın-şayınlıq” (comfort) used to arrive. Thereby, “ayın-oyun” (traditional ceremonies and games) used to start.
Games were divided into day games and night games.
Aradan was one of Azerbaijani daytime games. This game resembled sort of battle confrontaion. So the game was done by two teams of “qoruyan” (deffenders) and “yügürən” (attackers). The “qoruyan” team deffend something of impetance while the “yügürən” try to capture it.
Both deffending and attacking consist of smart tactics and technics to defeat the conterpart team.
In 2017, this game was adapted for Azerbaijani dance performances.
Aylan dance group was pioneer to make this arrangement. It was designed and directed by Tohid Hagibabaei along with Naser Manzuri as the theoretical consultant. It has been performed at various national and international stages or festivals so far, such as Paris, Vienna, Prague, Batumi, . . . and Tehran Folklore and Traditions Festival.
